Fall Classic Game 7 Attracts 51M Audience Members Across the United States, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The nail-biting extended contest where the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run attracted a combined 51 million viewers in the US, Canadian, and Japan markets. MLB announced this is the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 since the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Details

The Saturday memorable contest secured 27.33 million audience members on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also is the top-rated Fall Classic game since the 2017 final game involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This represents a 16% improvement compared to the previous finale featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game ranked 4th, Game 4 was seventh, the fifth game was 8th, and Game 3 landed in 13th position.

International Audience Numbers

In Canada, the climactic game drew 11.6 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English program in the country after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game started at 9 p.m. local time, it attracted 12 million. This came after the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – drew over 13 million spectators, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Averages and Patterns

The full seven-match series drew over 15.7 million viewers on Fox, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership increases for two consecutive years.

Counting the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the total US average was 16.1M. The total World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew 8.09M viewers, an 8% increase compared to last year and the network’s best playoff performance after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball reported that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 various tongues.
